Fantastic family fun just 15 minutes from Plymouth
In 2006 the Mee family purchased the struggling Dartmoor Wildlife Park, reopening as Dartmoor Zoo in 2007. Zoo Director, Benjamin Mee recorded the family’s story in his book, “We Bought a Zoo” which was made into a movie of the same name starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson in 2012.
Set in 33 acres of beautiful woodland just 20 minutes from Plymouth, Dartmoor Zoo features the largest collection of Big Cats in the region including African Lions, Amur Tigers, Jaguar and Cheetah. Visitors will also find Iberian Wolves, European Brown Bears, South American Tapir, Ostrich, Meerkats, Otters, Monkeys and much more.
Bring your little witches, wizards, ghosts and ghouls to Kents Cavern this Halloween Half Term for Batty adventures! Head into the mysterious underground world of the caves to find the hidden pumpkins.
Open The Box this half-term with a number of family-friendly events
Plymouth has a fascinating past and a dynamic present. The blend and richness of our collections tell the stories of international and local significance through immersive experiences and amazing objects.
They also give contemporary artists the opportunity to create new work that responds to The Box’s vast collection.
Set within a spectacular ancient valley, Dartmoor’s famous Becky Falls has been attracting visitors since 1903, and no trip to Devon would be complete without a visit.
As always, we will be offering hands-on Animal Encounter Shows where you can get up close to some of our friendly residents. Who will you meet today? They could be furry, scaly, feathery, or even have 8 legs! No session is the same. Not forgetting the Meet the Keeper Sessions throughout the day with our Meerkats and other animals. We also have a children’s stamp trail, where every child wins a prize, and there are Explorer Backpacks available to borrow to help young explorers really discover the woodland.
