Get hooked at Royal William Yard's

Plymouth’s new bar and eatery, The Hook & Line, opened its doors in Royal William Yard’s historic Slaughterhouse building, this summer. Since then the rum has been flowing and the chefs have been busy serving up the freshest fish and shellfish, all caught locally by the restaurant’s own boats.

The brainchild of business owner, Ben Squire and hospitality expert Steve Page, within The Hook & Line you discover a quirky, rustic interior with benches and cosy booth seating. True to the City’s naval roots The Hook & Line is home to Plymouth’s first speciality rum bar, serving over 75 versions of the sailors’ favourite tipple! The bar is the heart of the venue and Steve’s real area of expertise. There’s a specially selected wine list, Perrier Jouët champagne, cocktails are on point and you can enjoy The Hook & Line’s very own, smooth, signature ale, the Hook, Line & Sinker.

Head chef, Amber Lau, has created an imaginative and delicious menu, with regular seasonal specials, based on the catch each week. Situated on the water, fresh and local fish is, of course, a key feature at The Hook and Line. Expect fresh pastries and great coffee for breakfast and a mix of sumptuous, seafood tasters.

Among the delicacies on offer, there’s homemade mackerel paté on toasted artisan bread, cuttlefish calamari, white fish tacos, pan fried scallops and traditional fish and chips, cooked in the Hook & Line’s secret recipe batter. Specials vary from monkfish Thai green curry to mackerel in an olive, tomato and chorizo sauce, each dish carefully developed to suit the species of fish or shellfish.
