Diamonds – The 5C’s

It has been so lovely to see the world starting to open up again and welcome customers back into store. There seems to be a lot of catching up to do with missed celebrations! For some, the special occasion has called for a stunning diamond gift… and why not! Every diamond is so special, beautiful and unique that they really do make the perfect gift you can treasure forever.

We understand that purchasing a diamond is often quite an exciting and emotional event, however it can also be a daunting experience. Rest assured, our knowledgeable and passionate team are on hand to help you find the one that is perfect for you!

When choosing the right diamond for you, there are 5 key things to consider… the 5C’s!

These are: Colour, Carat, Cut, Clarity and Confidence.

This refers to the body colour of a diamond. Although to the naked eye, most diamonds will appear colourless, there are subtle differences in shade. Diamonds are colour graded from D (colourless) to Z (yellow). These grades play a vital role in establishing the value of a diamond.

D is the best colour grade you can get and we have a gorgeous collection of exquisite D colour diamonds… Desire by Drakes!

The carat tells you the overall weight of the diamond. Generally speaking, the larger the diamond the higher the carat weight will be. It is good to be aware that the carat does not solely determine the value of the diamond; it’s cut, clarity and colour will also be taken into consideration.

When a diamond is cut, facets are created. Facets give the diamond its unique brilliance and sparkle. Different cuts of diamond each give distinctive effects. The most popular cuts include: brilliant, oval, pear, marquise, heart, cushion, princess, emerald and radiant.

The majority of diamonds have internal characteristics which are known as inclusions. These are not faults, but are commonly known as ‘nature’s hallmark’ and contribute to the unique beauty of each diamond. The fewer inclusions the diamond has, the rarer it becomes and this will naturally be reflected in its value. A little fun fact for you here… only 2% of gem-quality diamonds are flawless!

Probably one of the most important things to consider when looking for your perfect diamond is choosing a jeweller you can trust. At Drakes, our friendly team are on hand to help you every step of the way when choosing a diamond that is perfect for you.
